Retail Potential brings together statistics from three separate data sources in order to derive estimated potential by each store type. The Census of Retail Trade presents a table known as the Merchandise Line summary, where distribution of sales broken into 120 merchandise lines or store types (e.g. hardware), which then can be computed into distribution of sales by store type.

While staying consistent with current year, AGS uses their Consumer Expenditure Estimates combined with the Census of Retail Trade, Merchandise Line sales to bring a series of merchandise line estimates at the block group level.

This dataset can enhance your spatial analyses of the current retail trade statistics and aid in identifying retail potential from up to 120 merchandise lines.
