Spatial Insights, Inc. announces the availability of a customized desktop geographic information system (GIS) which enables retailers and their suppliers to extract summary or SKU-level data directly from IBM databases. Data can be accessed directly from DB2/2, OS/2 Database Manager, and the AS400.
The system can utilize data exchanged between retailers and their suppliers via Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), and is being used to monitor and understand geographic buying patterns in existing retail locations, predict inventory shortfalls, and evaluate demographic factors that influence product demand and performance. The system generates maps showing the geographic distribution of product sales, inventory, and flow replenishment patterns.
Retailers also use the system to evaluate market potential and to define locations suitable for the placement of new stores or alternative product mixes at existing locations.
