Spatial Insights, a Vienna, Virginia based geographic information services company, recently completed a pro-bono evaluation of the geographic and demographic characteristics of donors to the Nation’s Capital Affiliate of the American Heart Association. The Nation’s Capital Affiliate serves the Washington, DC area by funding cardiovascular research and providing a vast array of educational programs geared toward increasing awareness and promoting better health practices in the struggle against heart disease and stroke.

The Nation’s Capital Affiliate relies largely on donations from private and corporate sponsors to fund their programs. The increasing competition for charitable donations and rapidly shifting demographics in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, have created a need to understand the geographic and demographic characteristics of donors. The evaluation performed by Spatial Insights formed the basis for delineating demographic profiles and identifying opportunities for additional solicitations and specific fundraising events.

“The work that Spatial Insights has done is the first of its kind for the American Heart Association, Nation’s Capital Affiliate. The data will allow us to better target our fundraising efforts and use our resources to their fullest potential. We are truly grateful to Spatial Insights for moving the work of the American Heart Association forward,” said Sylvia Robinson, American Heart Association, Nation’s Capital Affiliate, executive director.
