This database provides geocoded Canadian business locations to facilitate mapping and map-based studies of consumers and site location models. This file has over 50 business location attribute variables, including 12 new key decision attributes for the over 1.3 million Canadian businesses on file. NAICS code is also added to the file.
With this data, you can analyze the market for opportunities or competitive threats, assign territories, and build sales and marketing strategies with more information than ever before.
What are SICs?
For gathering accurate information about our economy and a variety of other reasons, the federal government has developed a comprehensive list of industry types and organized it into a rational system. Each and every identifiable industry in our economy is organized into a major category of related industries and given a specific code number. These “SIC” (Standard Industrial Classification) codes and the organizational system they relate to are used by many professionals to categorize industries properly.
What are NAICS?
The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) has replaced the U.S. Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) system. NAICS will reshape the way we view our changing economy. NAICS was developed jointly by the U.S., Canada, and Mexico to provide new comparability in statistics about business activity across North America. See the US Census Bureau for more information.
Canada Business Points is compiled by InfoCanada from hundreds of sources, including but not limited to:
- more than 300 telephone directories
- federal, provincial & municipal government data
- business magazines, newsletters & top newspapers
InfoCanada undertakes a thorough and meticulous process of manually auditing each piece of information. InfoCanada makes 16 million phone calls each year to make sure that the business data are accurate and up-to-date.
MapInfo geocodes the Canada Business Points file using a series of best practice geocoding processes in SQL Server, MarketMath, and MapMarker Canada. Preference was given to address geocoding. However where address geocoding was unsuccessful, the remainder of the file was geocoded using the latest Postal Code Conversion File.
